Free Tip Tracker Spreadsheet Template

Updated July 2026 · Copy-paste, CSV download, and the two formulas to add

A tip tracker spreadsheet needs nine columns and two formulas. This is the template. Copy it straight into Google Sheets or Excel, or download the CSV — no sign-up, no email. It tracks the number that matters: what you took home, per hour.

The template

One row per shift. Three example rows show how it fills in — the numbers below are realistic dinner and bar shifts, not placeholders.

How to use it

One row per shift, filled in the night you work it. That is the whole system — about 30 seconds once the sheet is set up.

Tax mentions on this page are U.S. federal general information, not tax advice — confirm details with your tax preparer.

The formulas to add

With the header in row 1, your first shift is row 2. Columns land as A through I, so Hours is C, Cash tips is D, Card tips is E, Tip-out is G, Take-home is H. The formulas are identical in Google Sheets and Excel.

If you want wages in the picture, add a Wages column and include it in the Take-home formula. Tips-only is fine to start — most people add wages once they start comparing jobs.

When a spreadsheet stops working

Honest answer: this template is genuinely enough for one job with a simple tip-out. Plenty of people run a sheet like this for years. It starts to crack in specific, predictable places:

If the sheet stops happening

Tip tracker template FAQ

How do I make a tip tracking spreadsheet?

Make a sheet with nine columns — Date, Job, Hours, Cash tips, Card tips, Sales, Tip-out, Take-home, $/hr — add one row per shift the night you work it, and let two formulas compute take-home and hourly. Total the columns weekly. Or copy the ready-made template above.

  1. Create the nine header columns in row 1.
  2. Add the Take-home and $/hr formulas.
  3. Log one row per shift, the same night.
  4. Total take-home and hours weekly.
  5. Or download our free CSV template and skip the setup.

Does this template work in Google Sheets and Excel?

Yes. Use the Copy button, click cell A1 in a blank Google Sheet or Excel workbook, and paste — the tabs split everything into columns automatically. Or download the CSV: Excel and Numbers open it directly, and in Google Sheets use File → Import. Same columns, same formulas either way.

What columns should a tip tracker spreadsheet have?

Nine: Date, Job, Hours, Cash tips, Card tips, Sales, Tip-out, Take-home, and $/hr. Cash and card stay separate because they reach you differently. Sales lets you check your tip percentage and any sales-based tip-out. Take-home and $/hr are formulas — cash plus card minus tip-out, divided by hours.

Do I need to track cash tips for taxes?

Under U.S. federal rules, yes. Cash tips are taxable income, the same as card tips, and IRS Publication 531 expects a daily record of them. If your tips reach $20 or more in a month at one job, you report them to your employer by the 10th of the following month, per IRS Tax Topic 761. This is general information, not tax advice.

Is the template really free?

Yes. No email, no sign-up, no watermark. Copy it or download the CSV and it is yours. It comes from the makers of TipBud, an iOS tip tracker, but the spreadsheet stands on its own.
